Axial Seal Doublings
This modification requires little Illustration. For Ljungstrom type Airheaters, the addition of an extra Axial Seal seal fixing plate is simple. We have modified all units at Drax, most of the units at Ferrybridge and one at Didcot previously.
Axial Sealing is a secondary leakage measure to deal with rotor Bypass flow. It has been effective on all sites when coupled with good Circumferential Sealing.
Replace Circumferential Seals and Introduce Deflectors:
Circumferencial Seals should be replaced regularly or modified to last longer and seal better. Each individual Airheater Type is different however ALL can be improved. Ideas for deflector Plates and Clay Cloth seals which cater for thermal load dependant rotor position fluctuations have been devised previously. These can be discussed and engineered as required.
